I didn’t train. I didn’t lift anything. I just woke up like this.

I thought I’d slept on it wrong. I still had to reverse out of the driveway.

I’m 36. I sit at a desk most of the day. I am not training for a race. I do not have a complicated recovery routine. I go to bed like a person who has had a long Tuesday.

Then there is the morning I did nothing to earn.

Phone first. My right shoulder does not come with me. The top of my back feels like it set overnight. In the bathroom I try to look over my shoulder to find the sleeve of my jumper and I only get halfway there.

The driveway is the part I hate. I need to reverse out. I need that check over my shoulder. The spot along the top of my shoulder has other plans. I do it on mirrors and a bit of hope and I am already annoyed before I have left the street.

I used to blame the pillow.

What I try at 7am

I rub it with the hand attached to the tight shoulder

I can feel the exact spot. I still miss it. I am twisting the same shoulder I am trying to loosen, and I make it more annoyed than it was when I woke up.

I stand in a hot shower and wait

It feels nicer. By the time my hair is dry, the tightness is still sitting there. It just got warm.

I tell myself it will shake out by lunch

It comes to work with me. It sits in the chair with me. By the time I remember it again I have already spent half the morning holding my shoulders up around my ears.

I did not need a new body. I needed ten minutes before I put a shirt on.

I was not looking for a permanent fix. I wanted to turn my head far enough to reverse the car and not think about my shoulder until I got home. That was the whole job.

Ten minutes on the spot. Then I get dressed.

Everything I reached for still asked me to press

A thumb. A shower. A bit of stretching I was never going to do before coffee. All of it is me pushing into a place I can barely land on.

A colleague had one of those cupping things at home. I thought it looked odd. Then I tried it on a morning like this.

The APEX Cupper grabs onto the spot and stays there. It pulls the tightness up, instead of me digging at it with my own thumb. I sit. It does the work.

What changed for that morning

It holds on, so I do not have to twist around and miss

I park it on the tight trap, the bit I keep missing with my own hand. It stays there. I am not in a fight with my own shoulder.

I pick the intensity

I start at the lowest setting. If I want more, I add more. Nobody is asking me how the pressure is. I am standing in my own kitchen.

I can drink my coffee while it sits there

That is the part that made it stick. I do not have to be awake enough to do a routine. I put it on and I wait.

How I use it before work

On the tight trap or the top of the shoulder

That is the spot that seized overnight. Not the front of my neck. Not my face. Not down the middle of my spine.

Lowest setting first

The first morning I used it I went too keen and braced. You do not need that. Start low. Let it grab. Add a notch if you want.

A couple of minutes, then I move it

I do not leave it glued to one patch for the whole session. I shift it. Ten minutes all up and I am putting a shirt on.

If it ever feels sharp, burning, numb, or just wrong, it comes off. That is the whole rule.

The honest part

Yes, it can leave a round red mark. That is suction. Mine fades. I would not put it on a bare shoulder the morning I had a strapless thing to wear. A jumper covers it.

It should feel like a pull. A strange, specific pull. It should not feel like I am white-knuckling through it.

This is a wellness device I use at home. It is not a diagnosis and it is not a stand-in for someone who is actually meant to look at you. If something feels off in a way that is not ordinary morning tightness, that is a different conversation.

What I used to do with that morning

Pressing into it

  • My thumb, on the shoulder I am trying to loosen
  • A hot shower, then dry hair and the same tightness
  • Stretching I was never going to do before coffee
  • A massage gun, if I could get the angle

Pulling it up

  • It grabs the spot and holds it, hands off
  • I sit with my coffee while it works
  • I choose how strong it goes, from the lowest setting up
  • Ten minutes, then I get dressed

I did not need a harder press. I needed a different direction.

I am not the only one who was sick of that morning

Common themes from customers on the APEX site

Stubborn tightness through the traps and shoulders. People who already owned a massage gun and still had the same spot. People who were tired of waiting for the next appointment to deal with something that shows up on a random Wednesday.

They talk about using it at home, on their own time. That is the bit that sold me. Not a miracle. An evening or a morning that felt usable.

I am one of the people who bought it for a boring reason.

What other people said after a week of it

“I was skeptical that this cupping set would duplicate the cupping performed in a spa and I could not be happier with my purchase! So easy to use right out of the box… I was able to work at my desk with the cups attached and they never fell off. You can choose your heat level too… They are lightweight and small, which is a bonus if you want to travel with them.”

“Let me just say that these haven’t been in my house for even 6 hours and my husband has had me cup anywhere and everywhere he had lingering muscle tightness… He was skeptical and thought I just bought a useless gadget, but he quickly changed his tune… they are small but powerful, battery life was great… All in all 100% worth the money.”

“These cups are the real deal, they do what they say they do at a lower cost. I advise to start at lower settings because it is intense suction but the relief the next day is worth it. Easy to use too… You will get bruises but they don’t hurt and only top of the skin deep in my case. Well worth it though.”

“I bought this product recently because I went to a massage that cost me $120… I came across this and gave it a shot and I’m so in love! I have been using it every day to relieve pressure from my neck and it’s been super helpful since I work from home. The heat sensors are terrific. The modes are fantastic as well.”

“Just received these Cuppers! They really feel like a quality product and are very well made… Can’t wait to try them out on my neck and shoulder muscles! I used some similar cuppers (non electric) when having some acupuncture done several years ago! These are much better and offer not only cupping but infrared for heating the muscle.”

“The value for money is fantastic. The portability really helps with my neck stiffness. Incredible relief!”

The questions I had

Will I be late if I use it before work?

I set it up while the kettle boils. Ten minutes. I am not doing a routine on the lounge room floor.

Will it mark my skin before a meeting?

It can. I use it under a jumper or a shirt with a bit of shoulder coverage. If I need a bare neckline that day, I save it for the evening.

Can I use it on my neck?

Not the front. Not the side. I keep it on the upper traps and the top of the shoulder, where the tightness actually sits. That is also what the safety notes say.

I already have a massage gun.

Same. The gun is a press. This is a pull. I still own the gun. I reach for this on the mornings I cannot be bothered fighting my own shoulder.

What if I hate it?

You have 30 days to send it back. That was the only reason I stopped hovering over the button.
